Berry Horton (Chicago)
"Transformative"
August 6 - August 28, 2016
This never before seen exhibition includes erotic drawings from the 1930's to 1940’s. The show is timely in nature as it depicts the transgender world that existed over seventy years ago in Chicago’s South Side. They illustrate the beauty resulting from individual sexual transformation from the artist’s personal and illusory viewpoint.
Berry Horton trained at the African American South Side Community Art Center along with fellow artists William McBride, Jacob Lawrence, William Carter and The Neals. Horton worked as a model for the Art Institute of Chicago during the 1930's.
His work consists primarily of portrait and figurative pieces. This exhibition includes some of his abstract nudes inspired by the Artist Model Galas from the Depression Era.
The works exhibited in the gallery are of an erotic nature. The more explicit pieces are available under a separate cover.
Special thanks to Eugene Foney who made this exhibition possible.
