Chris Silkwood has worked full time as a modern mosaic artist for more than fifteen years. She studied intently with mosaic masters for three years while living in Brisbane, Australia and after returning to Texas participated in a summer study program in Ravenna, Italy.

She was one of the early studio artists at Winter Street Studios where she created her art for thirteen years and just recently built her home studio. Chris' work is highly collected and has been featured in magazines, museum exhibitions, a solo Arts Brookfield event, in film and television, public art and private collections.

Her Redbud Gallery show includes a series of wall hangings, sculpture and a unique collaboration with steel artist, Keith Crane.

She has blended her training and creative instincts to master a style that is uniquely her own. The work is a study in classic mosaic with very contemporary styling. Her intention as an artist has always been to honor the ancient mosaic techniques through careful and purposeful application of materials, but with modern design presentation. She believes there are no boundaries with mosaic and the opportunity to work with such magnificent color reflected in glass is incredibly fulfilling.

Chris says, "My work is a reflection of the world around me. I'm attracted to the dynamics and energy in nature, architecture and humanity, and I express these spaces with high color and joyful design. Entering my studio each day represents joy, and my purpose as an artist is to share that joy through each piece I create."

She is also an active curator, collector and art activist. Chris promotes the work of numerous Texas artists, the importance of public art in Houston, and major art events.
