"French Masters"

Redbud Gallery announces a major two week showing of paper works by top French masters ranging from Gauguin to Callot , opening Saturday, March 1 through March 12. Works by Cezanne, Renoir, De Stael, Bourgeois, Manet. Braque, and Besnard will be included. A highlight of the exhibition will be a rare piece by Francis Picabia.

 

Francis Picabia (1879 – 1953) was a French avant-garde painter and poet. He experimented with Impressionism and pointillism, and became associated with Cubism. He was one of the early major players in the Dada movement. Picabia has a major MOMA show opening in NYC in 2016. This pencil signed etching of a French city gate was created early in his career. It is recognized by leading Picabia experts. The piece is the only known copy existing. Circa 1906. Prior to his cubist period.
