ARTIST STATEMENT

I make things. I have an insatiable desire to create, explore, and understand—to transform ideas into tangible, lasting forms. My work is an extension of both my hands and my head, a balance of craftsmanship and curiosity, structure and spontaneity.

I strive to provide just enough information and form to spark recognition while leaving room for interpretation and mystery. I want my sculptures to engage, invite, and surprise, offering a shared moment of discovery between the viewer and the work. Playfulness and simplicity are tools I use to communicate ideas that are often deeply personal yet universally accessible. My background in graphic design, fascination with pop culture, and love of storytelling all filter into the work, shaping its rhythm, color, and presence.

Art, to me, is about connection. We are given only a brief amount of time together, and in that time, art allows us to laugh, think, remember, and feel—to acknowledge the full spectrum of experience, from the profound to the silly. Sometimes my work is serious or contemplative, but most often, it embraces the joy and absurdity of being alive.

BIOGRAPHY

The son of eccentric East Texas junk yard owners, Jeffie Brewer spent his childhood developing an array of industrial skills, a knack for drawing and an eye for finding beauty in the mundane. Since his inaugural solo exhibition in 1998, his creations have graced public spaces, galleries, museums and private and corporate collections from North America to Central America, Europe, and Asia.

Jeffie has dedicated his life to art, fun and beauty. After earning an MFA, an MA, and a BFA across various disciplines, Jeffie embarked on a 20-year stint as a professor of art. From those years molding young minds to working as an illustrator at an ad agency to owning a design and fabrication company to building his own house, Jeffie continues to discover the extraordinary in the everyday.

Jeffie lives in Nacogdoches, Texas, on a 20-acre property where he maintains his studio. He shares this space with his wife Angie, whom he credits with saving him from impending doom, and their beloved dogs, who are always part of the adventure.
