Keith Carter
"Ghostlight"

"Crossing", 2019, 24"x 24"

West Gallery
March 2 - April 27, 2024

Opening Reception:

Saturday, March 2, 6pm-9pm

We are beyond thrilled to present Keith Carter and his newest body of photographs titled “Ghostlight” with an opening reception on Saturday, March 2, 2024.

Keith is a master storyteller through the medium of photography. In this exhibition, he unfolds tales of southern wetlands in which his photographs convey feelings of a transcendent and mystical world. Moss draped trees, gloomy waters, and ethereal light inhabit the beauty of this special landscape in his pictures that span from Georgia to East Texas. Keith invites you to visit and dwell in one’s own reveries.

Influenced by literature, he triumphs in telling visual stories that resonate with the viewer just like the written word can. He states,” Our lives are made of small epiphanies – my small epiphanies have grown into giant beanstalks as I have grown older.” Consequently, his body of work is a celebration of these moments of sudden revelations that transport us into the spectacular world of southern swamps, bayous, and marshes.

The exhibition “Ghostlight” will be shown through April 27, 2024.

ARTIST STATEMENT

Ghostlight is an anthology of otherworldly images of southern wetlands with their moss-draped swamps, dark waters, marshes, bogs, baygalls, and bayous … home to ghost stories and haunting, ethereal light.
