Description
Redbud Arts Center 303 East 11th St., Houston, TX 77008 Saturday, November 23, 2024 from 3pm to 5pm Open to the public Participants must be 12 years of age or older Nonrefundable Fee: $60 per participant All materials are provided. Description Bring a little unknown into your work. In this workshop, participants will create monotype paintings on gel plates using drawing and painting techniques with tools that range from paintbrushes and brayers to cotton balls and cut-out stencils. Then we will transfer these paintings to paper. The results may surprise you. Come with a landscape in mind to paint from—real or imagined. Participants can bring a reference image or object if desired, or work from their imagination. Artist Bio Colleen Blackard’s work recalls dreams and memories of the natural world. Utilizing methods of printmaking, drawing, and installation, she connects external and internal landscapes. She received her MFA in Studio Art at The University of Texas in Austin in 2024, and her BA from Hampshire College, MA in 2009. She is a recipient of the Pollock-Krasner Foundation Grant and has completed residencies such as at Atelierhaus Hilmsen, Germany and Cill Rialaig Artist Retreat, Ireland. Her work has been shown in such venues as Owen James Gallery in NYC and Foltz Fine Art in Houston and her drawings are in Pierogi Gallery's Flat Files. In 2021, her solo exhibition, “The Abandoned Series: Returning,” at Redbud Gallery in Houston was awarded “Top 5 shows in Texas” by Glasstire.
