About the Artist:

Tarina Frank was born on a sail boat in the Gulf of Mexico and lived aboard the boat for part of her childhood. She earned her BFA in Metalsmithing at the University of Texas and earned her MFA in Jewelry at Konstfack University in Stockholm, Sweden. Her work is a blend between fine art and craft, wearable and sculpture. Her exploration of life vests as jewelry have allowed her to combine her love for sewing, metalsmithing and painting into unique wearable artworks. This is the first time her new work will be shown in the United States.

About the Artwork:

"An amulet is located in a pouch under your seat or between the armrests. When instructed to do so, open the plastic pouch and remove the amulet. Slip it over your head. Pass the straps around your waist and adjust at the front. To inflate the amulet, look directly at the imagery and think about its purpose. If you need to refill the amulet, hang it on the wall for contemplation. Use the amulet to attract attention to our use of contemporary safety objects vs spiritual objects.”
